New Assignment Center: Allow students to save their view

Students have a preferred view. They change it to grid for example but when they then click an assignment for details and then click back to get to the center, it reverts back to list view. Students should be able to save their customizations...otherwise, what's the point in customizations!

    Hi Folks -

I'm marking this Idea has implement as we've made some adjustments to how the new assignment center is remembered for students in the system.

The very first time a student or parent accesses the new assignment center, the system will point them to the stipulated view set in Grades > Grading setup > New assignment settings.

Once the student or parent changes from either List or Calendar view, that gets saved on that device's cache. From that point on, the view of the assignment center relies on that cached version. So, if a student accesses an assignment from the calendar, and then navigates back to the new assignment center, they'll land back on the calendar view.

Let me know if you have any questions or want to chat about this in more detail!

Thanks Mike....so, since "The issue that you're seeing where the student clicks into an assignment > navigates back to the assignment center > lands on the List view is not intended. If they navigate from the Grid, they should return to the grid. If they navigate from the List, they should return to the list" is not working properly, is there a fix planned or what should students do? Thanks, Sarah

    Hey Folks -

We have this planned to be implemented in the near future.

With the new Assignment Center, the view settings are saved in the cache of the student's browser. So, whatever selections the student makes get saved until they clear that cache. If nothing is found in the cache, the default view gets used and that can be set in Academics > Grades > Grading setup > New assignments.

The issue that you're seeing where the student clicks into an assignment > navigates back to the assignment center > lands on the List view is not intended. If they navigate from the Grid, they should return to the grid. If they navigate from the List, they should return to the list.

I'll update this Idea once it's been implemented. Hopefully should have that in the LMS in the near future!

It is such a simple--but important--thing to be able to save the preferred view! For users who are in the system every day, saving extra clicks makes a HUGE difference! In this case, being able to save the view might eliminate upwards of 10+ clicks per day (and that's if they only check their assignments once or twice per day for each course).
