Currently, if an Incomplete grade is entered for a student, and then the course is dropped, the grade of "0" is counted as part of the GPA calculation if the setting "Include incomplete grades as 0 in calculation" is checked.
Academics > Grades > Grading setup > Calculations > Grade averages.
I would like for the Grade average calculation to NOT include dropped courses. OR another setting should be added to the Grade average calculation to include/exclude dropped courses.
This seems like a bug to me, but Blackbaud support is saying this is working as intended and I can turn off all Incomplete->0 grades by unchecking the setting above. This does not work for us as we need 0's for Incomplete grades for courses still enrolled.
Thank you for reading :)
Andrew
Although, the only workaround is to delete the grade for the dropped course; I think there should be a checkbox to give option to include/exclude dropped courses in calculation. What if the school wants to keep historical record of grade received for the dropped course(s)?
The only workaround I have found it to manually delete "dropped" grades used in the calculation... but this is problematic because it removes a valuable record of how the student performed before the course was dropped.
Andrew, I am seeing that dropped courses with any grade are also included in the GPA calculations. As you said, an option for a dropped course to NOT be included in the GPA calculation should exist.
You can include/exclude courses with a grade of 0 by changing the current options, but the GPA calculation will still include all dropped courses regardless of the grade. To exclude a dropped course, the grade has to be cleared out, which is not what most schools want. We want to track the dropped course's grade without giving the student credit for the grade.
It is currently possible to exclude dropped courses on a transcript, but there is not option to exclude dropped courses from GPA calculations.
