Preventing users from creating multiple accounts

I am a bit frustrated dealing with duplicate user profiles. I would like to request a system to prevent users from starting a second profile or application if there is one in the system. I am finding the potential duplicate task a lot of work and would rather prevent the user from creating the duplicates in the first place.

    Agree with Charlie Patton's comment and Elizabeth's. Not sure how you will do this though if they use a different email address. You will need to have more than one item for comparing to the system. But careful, as you can actually have people with the exact same name, etc. but be different people!

    One problem we have seen is that parents will try to submit an application for next year for their already-enrolled students. Perhaps we could have a setting to disable applications for students. Or maybe give the parents a customizable message telling them that they don't need to apply again for next year.
