Why is assessment locking students out before they take the test?

I want to request that teachers be able to increase the number of times the student can take a test in order to avoid having the student locked out. Additionally I would like something like the ability for students to use the back button or x out of the assessment without having the system consider the test as graded.

I think whoever marked this as "already exists" missed the second part of the question/idea, which is:

    • "Additionally I would like something like the ability for students to use the back button or x out of the assessment without having the system consider the test as graded."

Obviously, the "retake" feature exists for students to take a test (although this doesn't really help with them being locked out, as it doesn't save any previous answers they entered, and they actually have to re-take the entire test.

But as for the second part, we would like something that will let the students use the back button or refresh button or x out of the assignment (WITHOUT pressing the "save for later" button, since they often forget to).

OR, maybe even just give a warning if they are going to press back or refresh ? "WARNING: your test is not saved, are you sure you want to back out/refresh this page? All answers will be lost". Something like that.

Again this is the fourth idea I've voted on last month that was marked as implemented or already exists recently, with the only explanation being given the "save for later" feature. Have any changes been made to this feature? Or were you just saying as it is, students should be able to "resume" their tests? If so, it is not working as expected. Any time a student presses "back", "refresh" or X's out of the test, or opens another tab, without saving for later, their test has a good possibility of getting stuck in limbo. It cannot be graded, and a ticket has to be opened with the helpdesk. Only about half the time can the answers be recovered, and when they are, it can take up to several weeks.
