This feature is available in FAWeb in the marking column; I think it is important that it is available in both the Assignment and marking columns in the OnCampus gradebook. Right now teachers have to also insert a "0" into the assignment column to force the Incomplete to show in the Student View, which skews the cumulative grade. There should be no cumulative grade if there is a missing or incomplete assignment.
I am happy to announce that we addressed this idea with the June 28th Gradebook Improvement release!
We now support shortcut keys and expose the assignment status icons in the Teacher Gradebook. Here are the release notes detailing the updates:

Thanks for your feedback and helping us deliver better software!

The method you implementation does not address the issue presented in these three (merged) requests. All you've done is to implement a shortcut way to initiate the missing, et al, statuses. To remove these statuses, it still requires too many clicks when dealing with a full class/schedule of classes and a full complement of assignments The intention of these requests was to have the I/M/X, etc. to be in the actual grade input box, which would then be replaced by an actual grade when the student turned in the assignment The grade calculation algorithm would know to read an M as a zero, and X as an exempt, etc. and compute the grade accordingly as FAWeb did. I suppose an alternative approach would be to allow the shortcut entry of I/M etc to initiate the status, then if a number is input in the box, the teacher is indicating that the status no longer is appropriate and thus would automatically be removed by the software.
Hi All!
We have some pretty awesome updates headed to the onCampus Grade Book this summer! Check out our blog story:
http://k12hub.blackbaud.com/h/i/345744891-sneak-peek-oncampus-gradebook-improvements-coming-summer-2017
The improvements include exposing the grade book status icons to Teachers and supporting shortcut keys. We're also going to be updating the Student Assignment Center to add better distinction between labels and actions. And we're adding status' for Incomplete and Missing so Student's have better insight into the Assignments they need to make up.
Here's a sneak peek at the prototype:

What do you think? Are we on track to resolving this request and getting this very popular idea closed out? Or is there something else we need to consider?
Thanks!
Jackie
I definitely vote for "E" for exempt, "M" for missing, and "I" for incomplete. I find myself forgetting what a a particular blank means.
It is nice to have both options - inserting the 0 and having it impact cumulative, or inserting "I" or "M" rather than leaving a blank to not impact cumulative. I agree with comment below, if letters are going to be an option it seems to make sense to include all, not just M & I.
It would be helpful if an E would populate the marking column grade if Exempt was selected.
